![]() Yes, there were two versions in the add and delete programs section. I've used it to zap some left over old software on my machines that Add/Remove in Windows refuses to get rid of. If however there really are two versions of the program on the hard drive and you can't get rid of the old one then try Revo Uninstaller (the free version should suffice) You can use something like CCleaner to remove this orphan entry. This entry points to a no longer existing uninstall file in all likelihood hence the error message you get. What it quite possible is that the installer for the new version didn't clean up properly and left an orphan entry in the Ad/Remove Programs list. Presumably if you run the program file directly from the folder you have found it opens the current version and not the old? If so then that probably means you only have the new version and that 321MB is not actually being wasted! Otherwise you would have two sets of folders and files. If there is only a single folder and it contains the new version files then that suggests the new installation over wrote the old. Has anyone had this problem before, or has any idea how to resolve it? It's not a huge problem, just annoying and a waste of 321MB on my hard drive. I've clicked on the support information link, clicked on repair, but then get the same CD-ROM pop-up as before.īeen to program files on C-drive and there is only one set of Calibre files, shown as today's date. This book is very complicated and many of the themes or storylines really aren't going to be understood or appreciated until you are an adult. Honestly though, this probably isn't the book to give your teen to read unless they are expressly showing interest in it. But this was real life and it isn't overly graphic, just realistic. There are a few graphic elements in terms of violence. This is an old book, written when you didn't write about that type of stuff. They have a few scenes together where they express that love for each other, but nothing to the level of being inappropriate or graphic. The main character does talk vividly of his love for Mercedes. I assume you are asking if the book is appropriate for teens? To that answer yes, there are no inappropriate parts. The only main problem is that the teen may develop an ever-lasting love for Edmond that may result in her/him living alone for the rest of her/his life! I agree with the point that the Inheritance Cycle is definitely worse, and it is perhaps but a little worse than the last Harry Potter book, though that will depend on the translation.įor example, in my version, the French word 'enceinte' (pregnant) is given, because the translator is too coy to write the English. Perhaps more worrying is the main character's use of drugs, although this may be because their effects were not well known at the time. ![]() The only possible objectionable bits in the 1200 page novel are perhaps, as mentioned the statue scene, where drugs cause two 'good guys' to hallucinate and dream that the statues are naked women, yet this is not graphic at all. I read this book first aged 13-14 and loved it - it is still my favourite book ever 2+ years since! This question was asked ages ago, but I'll still answer it in case anyone reads this. It's a book a kid can read, but it is not a book a kid can appreciate TL DR: great, great novel, which can only be exacerbated by a lack of geo-political knowledge of the 19th C. But for me, reading it at 15 I felt like I didn't appreciate the novel in the same way and a lot went over m head I re-read it as a 23 year old who appreciated those extra lessons you gain in 8 years - an understanding of the French Revolution, the history of Napoleon, the fractured state of continental europe and the novel now firmly sits on my top 5 list. As a teen its hard to understand, as an adult I assume 'roi' denotes an association to the king and against the French Revolution background this makes a great deal of sense.īy all means it's not a book you should disallow your children to read, but without an appreciation of history and contemporary geography, as well as an appreciation of an antiquated terms, which one learns during the rigmaroles of literature analysis, I don't believe kids of a young age will fully appreciate the book - despite it being fine for them (there's nothing particularly raunchy). To give an example 14 year old me had no clue what 'procurier du roi' meant, even when it's elucidated that this means barrister (what exactly is a barrister to a teen?). but the level of detail and reference to 19th century continental politics/diction/shibboleths, really through me off. ![]() Not to sound arrogant, but I was a smart kid back then - had no problem with Achibe, Shakespeare, Hardy, Joyce, Dylan Thomas etc. I tried and gave up after about 1/4 of the book. I doubt you'll read this but I thought I'd offer my opinion as someone who tried to read this as a teen. ![]() ![]() The Ecco: The Dolphin series is probably a lot weirder than you remember. Unfairly maligned, but Soule’s approach to ‘90s RPG music was one of a kind.Įven when Treasure was doing embarrassing shit like this for money in their early days, that didn’t stop the legendary developer from bringing their all. Even some boss battles were simply drum loops and pads. Where the likes of Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy favoured strong, memorable melodies, Evermore’s OST combines long periods of ambience (track titles include ‘Podunk, 1965’ and ‘Ambience – Jungle 2’) with spindly melodies that often feel like they’re held together by Elastoplast. Nothing like other RPG OSTs of the time, it’s the first video game project of Jeremy Soule, who went on to become a titan of the genre, composing the Elder Scrolls series and more. That’s been denied by Square, but it didn’t save the game from receiving unfair backlash: Evermore is a flawed but good RPG with some genuinely unique elements, one of which is its soundtrack. The only game ever designed by Square in North America, word upon release was that this was a Western spin-off of Secret of Mana (with which it shared many qualities), when Square hadn’t ported the superior Seiken Densetsu 3 ( Secret of Mana’s actual sequel) from Japan. Gaming is a medium that’s meant to be engaged with, and these reactive, organic scores are no different. But it has to be said, if you really want to get the full experience for these soundtracks give these games a spin. That way we can include even more games that might have gotten snubbed otherwise (there are, obviously, some exceptional cases).įinally, we’ve included a song for each entry and a playlist for them all. For example, some of us really love Megaman 3, but Megaman 2 is here to take the trophy home for the whole NES team. ![]() Also, since video games can have a tremendous amount of sequels we have occasionally chosen our favorite from a series that deserves recognition as a whole. This means no Beatles Rock Band, no Tony Hawk, and no Grand Theft Auto (for what it’s worth, Vice City is the best) because to mix those with original soundtracks is simply unfair. Most importantly: licensed soundtracks - an incredible act of curation and an art form in their own right - are out of bounds.
